We develop reliable climate action programs and projects in Switzerland, Germany and Europe

These projects efficiently reduce or prevent greenhouse gas emissions (CO2 emission reductions). Or they effectively store CO2 in trees, soils, building materials or in other ways (CO2 storage and removal).

We apply the requirements of the Swiss CO2 Act as well as recognised international standards, such as ISO 14064-2.

Validated and verified according to recognized Swiss and international standards

Our projects are independently validated, verified and certified by accredited third-party auditors.

As a result, go-climate provides recognised Swiss and international carbon credits (e.g. CHA), carbon removals, and contribution claims.

The climate action programme promotes renewable heat generated from wood, environmental or waste heat, and/or geothermal energy. This replaces fossil heating systems powered by oil and natural gas, reducing carbon emissions. In addition, it strengthens energy independence by reducing reliance on imported fossil fuels. The resulting economic value remains within the country and continues to circulate in the local economy.

The Project operators invest in the required infrastructure, while go-climate calculates the resulting emission reductions and arranges independent verification by accredited third-party auditors.

Reforestation in the Ursern Valley (Canton of Uri)

The reforestation project in the Ursern Valley is implemented by the non-profit association “Wald und Klima Ursern”. The valley has been largely deforested for several centuries and is now dominated by grassland and shrub vegetation. Without targeted intervention, natural regeneration of high forest does not occur. The objective of the project is to establish structured high forest stands (clustered forest structures), which significantly increase carbon and water storage, provide improved protection against natural hazards such as avalanches and landslides, and enhance local biodiversity. Native tree species are planted, including Norway spruce, European larch, silver fir, and sycamore maple.

The project actively involves the local community, encouraging volunteers to support planting, maintenance, and protection of young trees.

  • Total reforestation: 58 ha (structured cluster forest system)
  • Cooperation with the Canton of Uri, Korporation Ursern, and the municipalities of Andermatt, Hospental, and Realp
  • Increased protection against extreme weather events (avalanches, heavy rainfall, landslides, droughts)

“Wilder Wald” Forest Conservation Project

The “Wilder Wald” climate action project removes forest areas in southern Baden-Württemberg (Germany) from commercial timber harvesting. During the project period, no wood is extracted from the designated areas. As a result, the forest removes more CO2 from the atmosphere compared to a managed forest. In addition, the project enhances biodiversity and improves water retention capacity.

  • 150 ha of forest in the Hohenzollern forest district were taken out of commercial use in 2021
  • The carbon stock of a natural forest is approx. twice as high as that of a managed forest
  • The carbon stock is expected to double over time until the ecosystem reaches a new ecological equilibrium
  • Project duration: 50 years
  • Expected CO2 sequestration: approx. 70,000 t CO2 (ex-ante)
  • Ex-post verified CO2 removals

Climate removal through agriculture

CO2-Land

The climate and soil protection programme CO2-Land sequesters carbon in soils through humus-building agricultural practices. Together with farmers, suitable regenerative cultivation measures are implemented on arable land. In addition to carbon sequestration, humus formation improves soil fertility, increases water retention capacity, and enhances biodiversity on farmland.

  • Project initiated in 2022 by the non-profit association “CO2-Land” (Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany).
  • Humus-building agriculture stores CO2 in the soil and improves water retention capacity
  • Soil organic carbon loss is prevented (Trend in Germany according to national soil condition surveys)
  • Currently 50 farmers with around 3,000 hectares of agricultural land
  • Minimum participation period: 10 years
  • 144t CO2 already sequestered (ex-post verified)

Swiss District Heating Networks in Planning – we are looking for projects

“Swiss Heat” according to Annex 3a of CO2 ordinance

The go-climate climate action programme “Swiss Heat 3a” supports district heating networks that replace fossil fuel-based heating systems in buildings in a simple and cost-efficient way. By replacing oil and natural gas heating systems, the programme reduces CO2 emissions and strengthens energy independence. Value creation remains within Switzerland. CO2 emission reductions are calculated in accordance with Annex 3a of the Swiss CO2 Ordinance.

We manage the funding process and offer an attractive price for the resulting CO2 certificates. We are currently looking for district heating networks in the planning stage – Click here for more details (in German).
